Extra Academy invites: BALOJI

Extra Academy is an open programme on artistic practice, reflection and research. It is is an alliance between the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp, the Royal Conservatoire Antwerp, Sint Lucas School of Arts, and Stadsform, and is curated by Nico Dockx, Clara van den Broek, Helen Mauli Dowling, and the team of Stadsform.
On 29 January, Extra Academy invites BALOJI, a polymath artist, filmmaker and poet born in Lubumbashi (DR Congo) and based in Belgium. The duality between knowledge and the mystical permeates his work, marked by a singular sensitivity to dreamlike worlds and magical realism.
After several acclaimed short films, BALOJI directed his debut feature Augure (2023), which won the New Vision Award in Cannes, and was chosen as Belgium’s submission for the Oscars. He is currently developing Mulâtresse Solitude, a project comprising a musical soundtrack and concert series, a short film exploring satellite characters, and an augmented reality experience. Parallel to his filmmaking, BALOJI has released three gold-certified albums.
