Geert Hendrix

Geert Hendrix (born in 1964) was musically active from a very young age as a church organist and conductor. At the age of 15, he was already conducting choirs and involved in liturgy. After completing his theological-philosophical studies at the Catholic University of Leuven and gaining several years of teaching experience, he moved to the Royal Flemish Conservatory of Music, where he won several first prizes (including in music history) and completed his choral training with distinction. He completed his musical studies at the Lemmens Institute in Leuven, where he also obtained a Master's degree in Choir Conducting. In addition, he also took lessons in Orchestral Conducting.

He is a teacher of Philosophy at the Catholic University College of the Kempen. At the Municipal Academy for Music, Word, and Dance in Lier, he teaches choir, ensemble singing, music history, and conducting. He is also a member of the Academy's board. He is also a teacher of Literature Study in Choir Conducting, Introduction to Choir Conducting, and Literature Study/Repertoire at the Royal Conservatoire Antwerp.

Since 2006, together with Vera Van Eyndhoven, he has been artistic director of the La Passione orchestra, a professional orchestra that has accompanied various choirs in large oratorios. In addition to professionals, the orchestra engages talented pre-professionals. They are given opportunities to become familiar with the large repertoire.
He is the founding conductor of ‘de kantorij’, a liturgical choir, and of the concert choir ‘Helicon’, which has become a household name in the Flemish choir landscape. With these choirs, he has realized many projects for a cappella choir or for choir and orchestra. Helicon and La Passione form an artistic tandem.

In addition to these musical activities, he is one of the driving forces behind the non-profit organization Leerhuis- en Liturgieprojecten, which aims to introduce responsible literary and musical forms into the liturgy.

He regularly gives conferences, workshops, and song days on musical subjects or theological-liturgical themes.
