This research project ‘Photo/space’ problematizes the presentation of the two-dimensional photographic image in a three-dimensional exhibition space. While photographic images are usually presented on a wall, Pieter Huybrechts wants to use images from his practice to investigate how they can also operate independently of the wall and how this could possibly lead to an alternative reading.
Huybrechts wants to challenge the conventional exhibition logic of photographic images by initiating two dialogues – with an architect/artist and an architect/scenographer – in order to unlock and test new possibilities. The ultimate goal is to make exhibiting itself an actor in reading and experiencing photographic images. Exhibiting is not understood here as the last step in making images public, but as a new beginning, a moment of creative destruction in which the already existing image is reborn in a challenging new form.
