ARTICULATE 2026 I Presence and Absence

14– 23 October

What does it mean to be present today?

In a world shaped by technology, representation, and public visibility, presence has become something complex — and unstable. Between what is visible and what withdraws from view, between sound and silence, something shifts.

Articulate 2026 takes this tension as its starting point. Across performances, lectures, and workshops, the festival explores how absence can be just as powerful as presence — in the body of a performer, in collective memory, in digital spaces, in what art holds but cannot say outright. It also asks whose presence has historically been kept out of view, and how art can offer new ways of seeing and listening.

Since 2016, the Royal Conservatoire Antwerp has presented an annual festival showcasing a wide array of performances, lectures, and workshops connected to research in music and the performing arts. Researchers from other Schools of Arts in Brussels, Antwerp and Ghent will also participate during the festive opening night and launch of the new October issue of FORUM+, the journal for research and the arts.
