‘Fully Automated Luxury Dancing!’ is a dance performance which explores the labour of dance and examines what it is like to live and work as a freelance dancer in the machine of today’s performing arts world. It attempts to reveal what goes on behind the scenes in the performing arts world, and how power operates inside it, on a micro and macro level, on our bodies and in our lives. In the performance, three freelance dancers - different every show - perform dance tasks live and without preparation in front of an audience by following instructions in the headphones they are wearing. They do not know what will be asked of them before they step on stage, but rather dive into the unknown, finding themselves in a position in which their personalities come to the fore as they respond to the will of a machine which knows exactly what it wants from them.
