The sound and the saxophone - part 1

Lecture-workshop
by FRANCOIS LOUIS

FRANCOIS LOUIS, musical instrument maker, was born in Brussels in 1954. Drawing on his background in fluid mechanics, gained during five years as a motorbike competition mechanic, he began modifying the mouthpiece of his saxophone. His designs have since been adopted by leading saxophonists such as Joe Lovano, Jerry Bergonzi, Tim Ries, Odean Pope and Emmanuele Cisi.

Recognized as an authority on reeds, mouthpieces and ligatures, Louis will first present a theoretical reflection on sound and the factors that shape it. The session will then shift toward practice, engaging participants directly with his insights.
