At this aperitif concert we present a special Oratorio project under the direction of Ewald Demeyere.
The programme features cantatas from Georg Philipp Telemann’s Harmonischer Gottes-Dienst (1725–1726), a complete liturgical cycle of 72 works – originally intended for performance in church and at home, now live in the White Hall of the Conservatoire. The cantatas, with texts by Anton Wilckens, are written for one voice, one dessus instrument and basso continuo, and usually consist of two arias with a recitative in between.
Despite the modest forces, Telemann achieves an impressive expressive power. Like no other, he brings the text musically to life with a wealth of rhetorical devices. A unique opportunity to experience these cantatas up close.
