Lennart Heyndels

Lennart Heyndels (born 1990) began his musical career at a young age. After playing the cello and bass guitar, he ultimately chose the double bass. He studied jazz music at the conservatoires of The Hague, Amsterdam, and Paris. From 2012 to 2018, he led the indie jazz band How Town, with whom he released several studio albums. In addition to his activities as a bassist, he developed a deep affinity for modular synthesizers and electronic music in general, which resulted in two solo albums: Halling (2020) and Brussels MIDI (2022). In 2023, he released Codex au Soleil, a modern interpretation of 14th-century Ars Subtilior music with influences from jazz and electronic music.

He has played concerts all over the world, from Europe to North America, Africa and Asia, and is a regular member of groups such as Hi Hawaii, Kaja Draksler Octet and Alex Koo Trio. As a session musician, he has played on records by artists such as Tamino, Warhaus and Zwangere Guy. Since 2022, Lennart has been a teacher in the Live Electronics department of the Royal Conservatoire Antwerp.

Lennart is interested in improvisation as a way to connect with fellow musicians and the audience, and he likes to juxtapose diverse musical ideas as a way to demonstrate the universality of music.
