Liselotte Sels

Liselotte Sels combines artistic and academic interests and activities. She studied musicology, piano and harpsichord at Ghent University, University College Ghent, and AP University College Antwerp. In 2014, she completed her PhD in Art Science with the dissertation 'Türkü and Halay between Ghent and Turkey: An Ethnographic Study of Turkish Folk Music in a Transnational Context' (Ghent University). In 2015, she worked as a visiting researcher at University of California, Santa Barbara, supported by BAEF. In 2021, she published a monograph on Turkish folk music with Equinox Publishing.

Since 2020, Liselotte is the coordinator of research group UP – Performance in Perspective at the Royal Conservatoire Antwerp, where she has also conducted several research projects. Currently, she is involved with the collaborative project 'Early Music'. Besides her work at the Conservatoire, she teaches harpsichord, accompaniment, and historical performance practice, and coordinates the early music team at Ma’GO in Antwerp.
