Liselotte Sels

Liselotte Sels is a harpsichordist, (forte)pianist and musicologist (PhD). She works as a researcher at Artesis Plantijn University College Antwerp, where she is involved in a research project about Iranian contemporary music. In 2014, she completed ​her PhD at Ghent University, with a dissertation titled Türkü and Halay between Ghent and Turkey: An Ethnographic Study of Turkish Folk Music in a Transnational Context. In 2015, she worked as a visiting researcher at University of California, Santa Barbara, supported by a postdoctoral research grant from the Belgian-American Educational Foundation.

Since 2006, Liselotte Sels has taught several subjects at University College Ghent, Artevelde University College Ghent and AP University College Antwerp (ethnic music, ethnomusicological seminars, music history, art philosophy, piano, creative sessions), and coached numerous bachelor and master research projects. Sels studied musicology and piano at Ghent University and University College Ghent, and is currently specializing in early music (harpsichord and fortepiano) at Artesis Plantijn University College Antwerp. She is active as a solo and collaborative keyboard player, composer and conductor.

Since 2020, Liselotte Sels is coordinator of the research group Performance Practice in Perspective (UP).
