Majella Clarke

Majella Clarke is a conductor, oboist, pianist, sound artist and composer exploring the next evolution of conducting. Her work asks: What forms of conducting emerge when conducting gesture, sound and musical agency become entangled with contemporary technologies?

Working across orchestral and experimental contexts, she investigates conducting as a compositional practice, extending its possibilities through AI, computational systems, improvisation, and new media. Her work examines how human and non-human agencies generate new forms of ensemble interaction, musical authorship, and posthuman aesthetics.

Majella has conducted orchestras and ensembles across Europe, USA and Australia, collaborating with living composers and advocating for new (and early) music. In 2020, she co-founded Helsinki Art Ensemble (HAE!), creating immersive performances with sound, new media and emerging technologies.
