Marianne Vierø

Marianne Vierø is interested in how preexisting knowledge and values condition the way we process information and situations previously unknown to us. She often approaches this question by developing speculative models of representation that are at once accurate and subjective. Considering the transformative potential of materials, methods, and gestures, she acknowledges uncertainty and ambivalence to be part of any language, not least the formats of doubling she produces. Vierø is interested in what gets lost along the way and what might possibly be gained. As such her practice is constituted by a continuous series of translation that collapses chronologies and categorization and places her work in a constant state of becoming.

Vierø is a Danish artist based in Copenhagen. She studied at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy, Amsterdam, and has been a resident at Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten, Amsterdam; Künstlerhaus Bethanien, Berlin; Triangle Arts Association, NYC; and the Danish Research Foundation’s art residency in Pietrasanta, Italy among others. Her work has been included in exhibitions at venues such as The Art Museum at the University of Toronto, Canada; Den Frie, Copenhagen; De Vleeshal, Middelburg; and The Philadelphia Museum of Art, USA.
