Raf Wollaert is an art historian working at the crossroads of archival research, oral history, and curatorial practice. His work focuses on the postwar avant-garde, experimental and documentary film, as well as art historiography. In 2024, he completed his PhD at the University of Antwerp with a study on the cinema of Marcel Broodthaers. Since then, he has been working as a part-time teaching assistant in the Art History department at Ghent University.
Activation and public engagement are crucial to Wollaert’s practice. Over the past years, he has curated film retrospectives of Broodthaers at various venues and co-edited La Lumière Manifeste, an LP of previously unpublished recordings of Broodthaers reciting his own poetry. He regularly shares his research through performance lectures and podcasts, with recent contributions for Espace 0 IN, ISELP, and the Broodthaers Society of America.
