Wiggle Room: Daily Deviations for Curious Citizens
A card game by Nik Naudts
Do you move freely in your own home?
How do you behave in public space?
Where do you draw the line between what’s yours and what can be shared?
What happens when that line begins to blur?
Wiggle Room invites you to explore the boundaries of your living environment — physically, mentally, and emotionally. The game consists of 13 themed suites, 54 cards in total, including two jokers. Each card contains a simple instruction that invites you to let go of habits, sharpen your senses, and make room for encounters.
Using the brick-textured backs of the cards, you can build a wall — and then dismantle it again, brick by brick. Or play a regular card game: quartets, memory… or — why not? — construct your own house of cards.
Part of Between Old Habits and New Habitats — a research project by Nik Naudts at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp (AP University of Applied Sciences and Arts) from 2023 to 2025 — Wiggle Room gently reclaims space through small deviations in increasingly standardized and regulated environments.
