creatieve projecten muziek in lockdown

In speciale tijden ontstaan speciale projecten. Ook dit jaar moesten de muziekstudenten aan de slag met computer, video- en opnamemateriaal om hun Creatief Project te realiseren. Lees hier meer over de projecten van voorjaar 2021.

Met de Creatieve projecten wil de opleiding Muziek ondernemingszin van haar studenten aanscherpen. Zowel de keuze van het materiaal, de planning en organisatie van het repetitieproces eb de uitvoering als de communicatie naar hun doelgroep ligt in hun handen. Gezien de beperkingen die nog steeds gelden, kunnen de voorstellingen helaas niet opengesteld worden voor publiek. We geven wel graag een overzicht van wat er dit jaar in de steigers staat.

Witte vlinders

Witte vlinders is een intiem muziektheater naar het werk ‘Platero en ik’ van Juan Ramón Jiménez. De klassieke gitariste Emma Wills (1998°) creëerde deze voorstelling als afstudeerproject aan het Koninklijk Conservatorium van Antwerpen. Het verhaal vertelt de herinneringen van de schrijver uit het dorpje Moguer, over de ontmoetingen en omzwervingen met zijn trouwe ezel Platero. Ze beschrijven op een poëtische manier de zorgeloosheid, de eenvoud en vergankelijkheid van de ongerepte natuur en het leven in Andalusië. In Witte vlinders worden de Spaanse gedichten verzoend met klassieke muziek, Spaanse volksmuziek, Braziliaanse volksmuziek, renaissance liederen, improvisatie, Schotse luitmuziek, Russische volksliederen, zowel eigen arrangementen als originele composities.

Stilte in de Storm

Wanneer iedereen het met de pandemie gehad heeft maar het zinloos is de ogen ervoor te sluiten, moeten we op zoek naar een nieuwe visie op het microscopische monster. We stappen in een immersive environment van projecties en muziek. Daarin brengen wij de dialoog die onze voorouders de afgelopen millenia met het onbekende aangingen. De barre strijd om het overleven tegen een onzichtbare vijand wordt herbeleefd door een afwisseling van muziek en gedichten, oud en nieuw. Een spel van vooraf opgenomen media en live musiceren belichten de veranderende beleving doorheen de tijd. Zangers en piano, gedichten, en stilte. Vanuit het perspectief van de zieke, de gemeenschap errond, en het virus. Met een knipoog en een traan. Als klap op de vuurpijl brengen we de première van een nieuwe compositie van Marlies Hollevoet.

De vier seizoenen

Het rustige en vrolijke leven van een vader, Jakob en zijn zoon, Misja wordt opeens bruut verstoord toen het jongetje aan een ziekte sterft. Dan wordt aan Jakob de mogelijkheid geboden om Misja uit het rijk der doden terug te halen.

Met dit project, dat het voordragen van het verhaal met geïmproviseerde muziek, live electronics en geprojecteerde suggestieve afbeeldingen verenigt, wil ik het publiek de bijzondere periode die de hoofdpersoon Jakob beleeft, in de vorm van vier seizoenen, laten meebeleven.

Once upon a time...

Once upon a time is a project about three tales from three different cultures, Spain, Hungary, and Ukraine. The musicians present new music based on folk melodies from their countries. There is a speaker and two extra performers alongside the three musicians. Our goal is to present our diverse background in a new and unique way.

Nu Dit Dan

‘Nu Dit Dan’ is een blik in het doen en laten van Walter. Walter komt op een kruispunt in zijn leven en kijkt terug op alles wat hij tot dan toe al beleefd heeft. Zijn turbulente levenspad brengt hem op verschillende unieke plaatsen met verschillende unieke mensen. Een deugddoende mix van woord en muziek worden gebracht door Arne Torfs, Arthur Decock en Robbe Vertente.

A Writer's Diary

A Writer’s Diary is een voorstelling die actuele stigma’s rond mentale gezondheid bij kunstenaars behandelt via het leven en de dagboeken van Virginia Woolf. De bedoeling is om een hedendaags perspectief te bieden aan haar problematieken van destijds, en deze uit te lichten via een samenwerking tussen beeld en muziek van Dominick Argento en Ruben Borges.

Visual art like paintings can really excite you, but if that art is mixed with music it would be a perfect combination of feelings. Like every movie the most excited moment is accompanied by music. I wanted to make people feel that in a art exposition, complemeting the paintings with music.

Requiem for Wildlife

Requiem for Wildlife is a memorial for the wildlife species that already went extinct, at the same time a try to raise awareness about the species that still can be saved from extinction.

The project involves 4 musicians, 1 dancer, combined with audio and visual projections.

Scheherazade Arabian Nights

During the show there will be a performance of the main frame of the story, along with a selection of tales from the Arabian Nights. Combining music and theatre, the audience will be introduced to an atmosphere with oriental nuances, showing the most fanciful, dramatic, and even bizarre side of these stories.

De Profundis - Frederic Rzewski and Oscar Wilde

The pianist Kosta Jakic together with the illustrators Xavier Löwenthal and Christophe Poot invite you to discover the writings of Oscar Wilde arranged by the composer Frederic Rzewski in the piece De Profundis for Speaking Pianist. During the performance, the illustrators will draw in real-time, adding to the text and music a visual dimension.

Elke twee weken sterft een taal uit. Een groot verlies? Voor velen niet. Zeker binnen de wereld van de westerse klassieke muziek zijn slechts enkele talen van belang en bestaat het idee dat sommige talen minderwaardig zijn. Maar wat als een componist zijn taalkundige kennis gebruikt om de muziekwereld te verrijken met nieuwe vocale klanken die niet enkel een betekenis maar ook een geschiedenis met zich meebrengen?

Music for the Bees

Music for the Bees wil bewustzijn creëren rond de precaire situatie van bijen in deze moeilijke tijden voor de natuur. We illustreren het leven van deze mooie, hardwerkende en belangrijke wezentjes met wereldpremières en uitvoeringen van muziek van Iradj Sahbai, Umut Eldem, Joost Van Kerkhoven en Iradj Sahbai, omkaderd door video’s, foto’s, schilderijen en lezingen.

Therapeutic

Therapeutic is a 2019 musical that explores the concept of mental health, in an entertaining way. It's Bob's first day as a psychiatrist in "New Heights" Sanatorium. The three nurses are always by his side. But are things exactly what they seem to be?

Federico García Lorca's Musical Soul

The creative project "Federico García Lorca's Musical Soul" aims to promote the musical side of the writer, by playing arrangements of his "Canciones Populares Españolas" for a small ensemble, combined with the recital of some of his most iconic poems and the narration of relevant aspects of Lorca’s art and life.

This is not a fairy tale

Everybody knows the famous fairy tale “Hansel and Gretel”. As most fairy tales known to us, it has a happy ending. The reality is, however, that everything always looks fine on the surface. Life is not a fairy tale.

W.

Met 'W.' brengt Tri au Bois een samenwerking tussen klank, beeld en tekst. Het is een muziektheatervoorstelling, gebaseerd op Goethe zijn 'Die Leiden des jungen Werthers'. Het verhaal wordt verteld door W. zelf, gespeeld door verteller Jeroen Spillebeen.
De muziek werd geschreven door componist Erik Desimpelaere en wordt gebracht door Tri au Bois, bestaande uit Sarah Jelassi op klarinet, Simon Vandenbroecke op fagot, Marjolein Lemmens op dwarsfluit en Paul Claus als bariton.

The Holodomor

The Holodomor (or Famine-Genocide) was a famine in Soviet Ukraine that killed millions of Ukrainians between 1932 and 1933. The term "Holodomor" speaks for itself: it comes from "moryty holodom", which means "to kill by starvation", and emphasizes that it was a man-made famine. As a result, millions of inhabitants of Ukraine, the majority of whom were ethnic Ukrainians, died of starvation in a peacetime catastrophe unprecedented in the history of Ukraine.

This project invites you to get an insight in how the Holodomor really was, its causes and the way it still influences the Ukraine today. You will hear music by prominent Ukrainian composers who gave a voice to the tragic fate of the Ukrainian people.

In this project the viewer chooses how difficult to make things for the performer. Through voting on the internet you can choose which voice the musician should play, and this is everchanging (even in the middle of playing).

A Punishment Trip

Honey, I bought a string quartet!

This musical comedy shows a couple where the man decides to spend all their savings to buy a string quartet as a gift to his wife. They try to show each other the perks and disadvantages of having a permanent string quartet in their life.

The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari

De stomme film The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari wordt live begeleidt met muziek van en door Gert-Jan Schoup en Sander Vets. Ze combineren akoestische instrumenten zoals trombones, piano en slagwerk met elektronische elementen.

(C)OVID`S METAMORPHOSES

We want to combine some metamorphoses by famous Ovid with this like we thinnk of also metamorphorical time for us as musicians/humans and therefore find solutions e.g. when we cannot rehearsal/play life together. History shows us that there have always been challenging times and we have to be brave to discover new ways. We want to reflect on our profession in a creative way, rather than just accepting we cannot perform as we used to anymore!
We would like to create a video with different images of us practicing as an ensemble, some interviews with people seen as our audience to ask for their feelings towards concerts/performances nowadys, and maybe also to compare our home countrys Spain and Germany also with Belgium in their different ways to help artists/musicians during corona.
Repertoire can be classical and with a touch of mythological aspect in order to refer to Ovid´s times, e.g. Mendelssohns Midsummers Nightdream snd other arrangements.
Our life performance has its interdisciplinary aspect with combining live music, poetry and video installation.
We as a student´s ensemble want to encourage our fellow students with this project. We all experienced very intensively this break in our artistically life and everyone differently. This is unfortunately not yet over as we experience it very well these days, so it is worth to talk about this in a creative project like ours.

Nature in Lockdown

A multimedia project with photography and live Marimba music. The nature in lockdown didn't really care about our problems during the pandemic -  nature moments of peace and intim atmosphere.Marimba live music includes arrangements and original works for marimba and tape.

Transport XXI

TRANSPORT XXI omvat een concertprogramma ten voordele van Amnesty International. Uit initiatief van Noah Senden is dit project een samenwerking met het voormalig Duits verzamelkamp Kazerne Dossin, acteur Johannes Wirix-Speetjens, celliste Yuri Kang, gitariste Emma Wills en een samengesteld strijkensemble olv Simon De Paepe. De naam TRANSPORT XXI verwijst naar de deportatietreinen van Dossin, maar in een hedendaagse context. Het thema mensenrechten is het grote leitmotiv, alsook in de afzonderlijke muzikale werken.
