The Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp is known as an international biotope that teaches its students to become critical and worldly artists. The Academy's reputation extends beyond our national borders and reaches distant countries and continents. We remain committed to being innovative and groundbreaking in the art world and also look for these qualities in our international partners. Why? Being open to other ways of thinking and acting ensures that you do not stand still and keep looking for new ideas. It allows you to place yourself in other people's shoes and use this quality to create a broad and inclusive worldview.
In the Academy we offer several opportunities to gain an international experience. One example is going on an exchange for a few weeks or months to follow some courses in a partner institution. This way you can gain knowledge of other cultures and backgrounds and integrate this into your artwork after returning to Belgium. The more you step out of your comfort zone and – literally – discover new worlds, the more dynamic and unique your work becomes.
The programme also focuses on teacher mobility. The lecturers of our programmes bring international contacts and guest lecturers into their ateliers and classrooms, participate in international (research) projects and establish sustainable collaborations and exchanges.
In addition, there are also a lot of informal exchanges during projects, expositions, internships, visits, juries... which allow us to tailor our training to the international field of work. As the Academy has an increasing international student population and a large international network, we are offered interesting and new perspectives every day, through Internationalisation at home.
The Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp has earned an international reputation, and has become an international meeting and working place. The lively campus is host to students from over 40 different countries. Foreign students regularly share info and tips through this Facebook community. We also offer our programmes entirely in English: Bachelor and Master in Visual Arts.
