Young Conservatoire

Young Conservatoire Classical is a program in which the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp, dé!Kunsthumaniora Antwerpen, the Ma'GO! and Podiumacademie Lier join forces to bring talented young people together and offer them a challenging preparatory program that prepares them for further musical studies at the Royal Conservatoire Antwerp.

What does the programme entail?

As a student of Young Conservatory Classical Music, you’ll make music every week with other talented young musicians:

  • You will be offered inspiring chamber music lessons, covering both classical and contemporary repertoire.
Teachers: Wietse Beels, Nicolas Callot, Dirk Proost, Maarten Wijnen
  • You’ll follow an intensive training in advanced music theory and ear training.
    Teacher: Edwig Abrath
  • You’ll take part in several workshops on Practical Harmony and Improvisation throughout the academic year.
    Teacher: Jeroen Malaise
  • You’ll have the opportunity to actively participate in an instrument masterclass with teachers from the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp.
  • You’ll participate in various chamber music concerts, helping you to develop your stage performance skills.

Classes

Lessons take place on Wednesday afternoons between 3:00 PM and 7:30 PM at the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp, Desguinlei 25, 2018 Antwerp. Chamber music concerts are normally scheduled on Wednesday evenings or during weekends.

Does this sound like music to your ears?

Then it's time to register for the admission test for academic year 2025-2026.

Requirements

  • You are enrolled at a Flemish academy from the DKO (part-time art education) or you are studying in a KSO (art secondary education) in Flanders.
  • Your academy or secondary school gives permission. Ask your conducting to contact jongconservatorium@ap.be in advance to discuss the conditions of your participation and support your candidacy.

STEP 1

Make sure we receive the following on 15 May 2025 at the latest:

  • Your portfolio with CV: In this portfolio you show which repertoire you master, which concerts you have already played and which competitions you may have participated in.
  • Contact details of the school you are currently taking classes and the written consent of the school to participate in the programme.
  • If possible: an audio recording or audio link.
  • A letter of recommendation from your instrument teacher at your academy.

Send your portfolio by email to jongconservatorium@ap.be, Stephanie Proot, coordinator Young Conservatoire.

STEP 2

The jury (with representatives from different academies) will make a first selection based on the portfolios. As soon as they did their homework, you will receive an email with one of the following messages:

  • You can join without audition
Because you have a top culture statute and/or you have shown in your portfolio that you have reached a place in the finals of an important music competition, e.g. Belfius, Cantabile, Steinway, Gretry, Breughel, VLAMO national finals, etc.

  • You are invited for the audition.
This audition will take place on 4 June at 15h at the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp, Desguinlei 25, 2018 Antwerp. The exact classroom of the audition and which repertoire you will perform will be communicated to you in the message you receive. You will receive your results after consultation with the jury.

  • You are not eligable (yet) for admission.
