Today’s performance scene has been outlined by postmodern and avant-garde aesthetics towards new paradigms of artistic embodied expression and intersected physical-digital (phygital) fruition. Meta-virtual/XR hybrid formats are challenging the traditional performing experience and spectators’ engagement by leading artistic research to broadly investigate participative and co-creative approaches. The aim of this two-year research is to examine today’s music performance social-frame and the active triangulation between performers, artmaking and spectators.
Royal Conservatoire Antwerp and Royal Academy Antwerp artist-researchers, Royal Conservatoire students in music and dance, experts from Royal Conservatoire Antwerp,CSTC-Goldsmiths University London, IPEM – Ugent, and Maastricht University will be involved in the methodology of Giusy Caruso, based on an ethnographic approach. This includes a collection of spectators’ reactions via video recordings, digital storytelling and/or interactive surveys and the exploration of wearable sensors prototypes by CSTC-London & LWT3-Milano during interactive live ad XR performances.
The documentation assembled in a 'Collective Musical Book' together with narrative reports and articles, MIRRORING-CREATIVE-METHOD workshops, seminars and new multidisciplinary formats will be the output of this research which contributes framing today’s music performance scene in practice as a space of social and phygital encounters.
