360 YEARS ACADEMY IN 360°

In 2023 the Academy will celebrate its 360th anniversary. This time we are not positioning ourselves in time, but in space: 360°Academy. Instead of looking backwards and forwards, we are now looking 360° around us. How is the Academy positioned in the world, and how does the world work in the Academy?

About the paradox of art education

'The world is not waiting for artists, but it does need them'

The Paradox of Art Education

Head of Department Johan Pas and Head of Education Mariëlla de Vos contributed to a recent article from Veto that examines the current position of art education. There is no question that the arts are important in our society. It is therefore undeniably important that students continue to (dare to) opt for art education and are properly supervised during their studies. We can proudly say that we have that covered at the Academy!

Open brief: DE GROTE DROOGLEGGING?

A MAJOR DRAIN?

Dear Mrs. alderman, dear Nabilla,

Erasing the city’s project subsidies for arts and culture for the next three years is a disastrous gesture. The Antwerp arts sector is still shaken by the pandemic effects and is still vulnerable.
This decision threatens to hit the art scene once again in its core.

EMA alumna Bieke Goovaerts speaks about her experiences

September is not only for our students at the Academy an exciting time, it's also the moment a lot of teachers, some of then for the first time, get ready for the start of a new and thrilling school year. How does it feel to stand in front of the classroom on the first of September? Are you nervous every time again or do the nerves get better the longer you have been teaching? And why have you chosen the teaching profession in the first place? All these questions and more I asked to two of alumni of our Educational Master Fine Arts at the Academy? Won't you read along?

  • An interview with Els Van den Eynden

An interview with Els Van den Eynden

“This generation of students is more assertive and not afraid to speak up”. Experienced alumna and employer Els Van den Eynden has seen so much change since her own years at the Academy. After 37 years of work, she is saying goodbye to her trusted workplace in the Mutsaardstraat and we don’t want to let that go by without notice . Why is the art college so close to her heart? You find out below.
