Reading Group Body and Material Reinvented

Reading Group Body and Material Reinvented
By Roel Arkesteijn and Vivi Touloumidi

Starting in October 2021, Body and Material Reinvented establishes a Reading Group, which will operate as an ongoing think-tank and contribute to the critical discourse of the Academy. Specifically, it aims to further articulate the subject-matter of the research group, build its community and sharpen the research objectives on which the group wishes to focus.

The Reading Group will regularly gather at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts and will discuss relevant and urgent literature within its field of enquiry. The group welcomes everyone - researchers, staff, students or otherwise - who wishes to participate and be involved in its diverse activities, which will support and boost the reading process, such as screenings and scheduled field trips.

The first publication to be read as a part of the Reading Group will be Donna J. Haraway’s book 'Staying with the Trouble. Making Kin in the Chthulucene', first published by the Duke University Press in 2016.

During the Open Laboratory Weeks, the Reading Group and its future activities will be introduced by Roel Arkesteijn and Vivi Touloumidi:
Wednesday 6 October, at De Lange Zaal of the Academy
17:00 - 18:00 Introduction
18:30 - 21:30 Followed by the screening of Fabrizio Terranova’s film 'Donna Haraway: Story Telling for Earthly Survival', as well as an aftertalk with the film director.
